SHAVE STARTER HAS THE MAGIC!
This product does an incredible balancing act-and does it better than anything I've found. I have profound concerns with pre-shave oils - the risk being oil absorbed by your expensive badger hair brushes. The very quality of your "wet shave" depends on the characteristic ability of your brush to absorb hot water! Badger hair and human hair have a unique ability to absorb water. Hot water softens your beard hair and mixes with shave soaps to produce that splendid lather - this process cannot help but be impeded if the brush absorbs oil! I don't think wet shaving fans can be too careful about this! This 'lotion' softens the beard, provides a base just slick enough to help the razors gliiide, but not so slick that the lather slides away, and it prevent nicks, and leaves my skin soooo nice afterwards! Finally, just a touch of refreshing menthol...HEAVENLY... !

The Best!
Cooling, soothing, and no cuts or irritation to my sensitive skin without any oily residue. I use Feather blades which are considered the sharpest blade on the market.

Wonderful Pre-Shave
This is my second time getting this. After using a couple other pre-shaves, trying to figure out what works best for me, I've come back to the Edwin Jagger. It is a bit pricier than some of the others however, I seemed to not get as many nicks, if any at all, when I used this. I also really liked the scent and the feeling of it on my face. It may not be for everyone but I would give it a try, I'm glad I did.

This stuff is the best.
Very good for pre-shave moisturizing and whisker softening. It’s right up there with Proraso pre-shave. it doesn’t have any fragrance added (kind of smells like oatmeal) so it won’t conflict with any aftershave you are planning on using.

So essential
I shave using a double edged safety razor made by Edwin Jagger themselves and it literally changed my life at the time. I bought it when I was in the Army and had to shave every day but using those crappy and expensive multiple razor blade things was just tearing my face up. I did a bunch of research on DE razor shaving and it truly transformed my life. I’m now out of the Army and don’t have the need to shave every day but this product is one that has stayed with me since then. This simple cream goes on light and thin, you don’t need a lot of it with each application (which is good because it’s admittedly a very small tube). Once you spread the small dollop on your fingers over the shaving area, your face just opens up! It starts to breathe and it’s like you can feel your pores just opening up and breathing! Menthol, eucalyptus, mint, all the above? I don’t know. Doesn’t matter. It just works. It is a super base for the shave cream that comes next and continues to provide that zesty fresh feeling throughout the shave. I know it’s a small tube and if you shave everyday or something close to it, you’ll want to buy multiples at once. Again, the saving grace is that you really don’t need that much with each application so don’t over do it and waste product. I’m telling you, though, buy a tube; just one. Try and go without it after buying that first tube! It’s really that good. Cheers!

You Will Actually Look Forward To Shaving !!!
Love, Love, Love this stuff. I have a really sensitive face, and when I started using this product, after I had treated myself to a really expensive barber shave in a spa, I fell in love with it. It preps your face, for a smooth shave, and I have REALLY sensitive skin. I use this with Baxter after shave lotion, and Jack Black shave cream, with an old school safety razor, your face will love you. Jack Black also makes a great after shave gel, I find the Art of Shaving just too expensive. Try this stuff, it is also not cheap, but you will love it.

Works well
Don't really care for the slight smell but it works well. I wanted another preshave and tried this. It seems to be a well working preshave - I use Proraso as my other preshave.

Non oily pre-shave with a nice scent
I have tried a number of pre-shave lotions and oils. This is the one that I have stuck with. Non oily with a light menthol like scent.

Evaluating unscented preshave products. Comes in second.
Good. Just not as good as Castle Forbes Unscented Pre-shave, which in my own opinion, is the premier preshave lotion. Edwin Jager uses some menthol, which I could take or leave. The Edwin Jagger appears to be “whipped”, while the Castle Forbes can be best described as creamy, softer, more hydrating and requires less product for coverage. These products are better than preshave oil as they are absorbed (and soften hair) rather than just lie on the surface of the skin and provide blade lubrication, albeit And acceptable preshave solution as well. I will admit to not having tried other unscented preshave lotions. These two were just known brands that already had the highest ratings. If you order these products during the summer months, or in a hot climate, do not let them sit in a hot mailbox all day they will explode. I lost nearly half of the Edwin Jager product, let the seller know – and asked me what I wanted to do. I was too lazy to respond, while the seller did nothing. Not that it matters a lot and is a minor detail.

Smells like Noxzema
I bought this only because it appeared that John Allan's Slick Water was no longer available. This product does do what it's supposed to do - works okay as a lubricant, with no oily residue and is cooling to the face. However, it smells like Noxzema. Don't even bother using your favorite scented shave soap/cream, because this stuff will overpower it. Now that I can get Slick Water again, this will go in the closet with the rest of the partially used stuff.

Get the most comfortable and cleanest shave possible.
I use many different razors and various shaving soaps and creams. But of all the pre shave products I’ve tried this is the best and the one I always use.

Good stuff!
I've tried a bunch of different pre-shave products for shaving my head, whether its lotions, creams, oils...this and Dove Men+Care Expert Shave Cream are my two favorites. Use them in combination, along with some Proraso Shaving Soap (White for me) and I'm set. I put it on right as I'm exiting the shower, gives me a nice cooling feeling and helps shave clean.

Edwin Jagger rocks!!!
This really does help soften the beard pre-shave. I wash it off before shaving, as I don't want it's scent to cover up my beautiful soap scents, so I can't really comment if it helps lubricate the blade while shaving. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a way to stiffen their stubble for easier removal.

I can shave without it but the comfort factor when using it is much higher
I hate pre-shave oils but this lotion is very nice. It's not oily and doesn't foul my brushes. Some of the oils I have tried have caused my brushes to not absorb water without washing them with shave soap. Not so with this lotion.

Fabulous
Wonderfully lubricating and pleasant to use. Just put a teeny amount in your palm and rub your palms vigorously and then smear on your stubble. Rince your hands, dry and apply shaving soap or gel. You'll be amazed. Use a Smoothere double edge razor.

This product works very well for me and better than pre-shave oil
This product works very well for me and better than pre-shave oil. Part of the reason I switched over to this product is that pre-shave oil can reduce the ability of your silver tip badger brush to hold water.

Excellent pre-shave moisturizer, wins all my head-to-head tests
Did a head to head comparison with Proraso, Jagger is vastly superiod, so I am going to upgrade my previous 4 star ranking Works better than shave oil and hydrates, you can feel it working, a tube goes quickly though if you don't use it sparingly

I just don't get the results others say they get. I started using natural shaving oil and it works much better and is less expensive. This just doesn't protect my skin like other products I have used.
