Medicinal smell, lathers ok, overly priced travel container with mediocre soap
I have used Proraso soap, Proraso soap for sensitive skin, Col. Conk, Proraso cream, TOBS and now Edwin Jagger travel soap. I want to throw this one out. I absolutely LOVE my Edwin Jagger DE89L razor and wrote a very positive review for it, but they should stay away from soap. If I absolutely need shave soap vice cream, I will use Proraso soap in the tub vice this one. The concept is great, but delivery left me wanting. Pros: 1) Container size works for traveling if gone for a couple of months at a time and the lid screws on nicely. 2) I was able to shave with it. Cons: 1) Fragrance does nothing to excite the senses, and for me is disgusting. 2) I cannot achieve a decent full bodied lather without adding creme, despite knowing how to use shaving soaps. 3) Would have liked even a smaller container for traveling. I later bought two tiny plastic toiletry travel screw on lid containers made by the company iGo from Walmart for only $1.00 that holds a nice dollop of Taylor of Old Bond Street shaving cream or other soft tub cream, which will last 2-3 weeks and I am much happier. And in the end it will take up a fraction of the space as this Edwin Jagger soap. No I don't have iGo company stock. I just found a solution to problem.

Not buying this again
So if you are expecting a luxurious lather and natural ingredients , this is not the soap. If you have somewhat hard water the lather you get even with your finest badger brush is nothing compared to other high end soaps like Le Pere Lucien or tabac or razo Rock classic or even Cade. Just don't spend on this one unless you have the softest water. The ingredient list is the other concern as it has too many hard to pronounce chemicals.

Hubby Loves This!!! The soap shaves better an is way less irritating to his skin than grocery store or name brand shaving gel or cream. We used to buy Gillette which we thought was a pretty high end product - but this is WAY better!!!!! The shave soaps last so much longer than a can of saving cream - he have gone through at east 4 or 5 cans in the amount of time a shaving soap bar lasts, it is way easier to travel with because it i a solid, Environmentally way more friendly because no propellants and no can to throw away or recycle. the oaps tale up less space in your closet than cans. And, the lather is way way more luxurious and feels great in the skin.. We'll never buy can of shave creams or gels again!

Amazing shaving soap, great smell
This shaving soap is a wonderful option for the brush and tumbler shaving system. This comes with a plastic screw-top container that allows you to take your shaving soap on the road with you. This soap doesn't dry out my skin and the scent is, pleasant and masculine but not overbearing. I'd Aloe Vera again (or try Sandalwood) and reuse this plastic travel container.

I really like this soap
I really like this soap. I'm still relatively a newbie - wet shaving for 8 months. The scent is by far the best scent i've used. It has that masculine but not overpowering scent. I've used the Parker Sandalwood and Proraso so far - blows both of their scents out of the water. The lather is nice, not as good as Parker but close enough. It's lather is far better than Proraso's. I also like the case it gives you. It's not rediculously small like others are. For the price, you can't go wrong with this soap!

a good traveling shaving soap and container
Exactly what it is: a good traveling shaving soap and container. Not my everyday use for sure but not bad to travel with at all.

I'm pretty happy with this
This lathers reasonably well and cushions quite well. The scent is very mild and a bit soapier than other Sandalwoods I've tried (e.g. TOBS), but is pleasant. The container is alright, though I bought the medium GoTubb, into which the puck fits PERFECTLY as a travel soap solution. Overall, I'm pretty happy with this, and the small size is great for traveling.

Very good but with so many other choices...
This was my first shave soap. I like the scent of the cream but soon found the lingering scent of the soap is much less. However, the soap lathers up great with my Omega boar and the lather is very protective, I usually get very close and less irritating results. Not sure if I will buy it again due to so many other choices but all in all it does what one would hope and provides a very nice shave. If the scent remained for a longer time I would consider buying again. However, the cream is always an option but I will need to see if the cream lubricates and protects as well as this soap. Another really good EJ product.

Good smell, very slick, and very hard to get a lather going.
This stuff can create a nice slick lather, but it takes a lot... a lot of time, and some days it just plain won't lather well. On a positive note, my wife LOVES the scent. I actually mixed it with an old puck of parker's I had around - and the combination has been great. I get the easy thick lather of the parkers along with the added scent and slickness of the EJ. I pretty well exclusively face lather. I did try this on it's own in a bowl, and can get a decent lather, but it's very thirsty and takes forever. I will buy this again, but don't plan on using it solo.

Great smell, but tempermental lather
I really like the smell of this soap. The soap works up into a nice lather quickly, but will not tolerate much water. I usually splash a little water on my face before I shave an in between passes. This has caused the lather to completely fall apart at times. It can go from thick white and creamy to little bubbles from the small amount of water splashed on my face. It also doesn't seem to lubricate quite as well as other shaving soaps I have used. Bottom Line: The soap can produce good lather, but you have to be careful when adding water.

Luxury!
I've tried many of the other brands of shave soap sold by Amazon, but Edwin Jagger sandalwood is by far the best. The lather is rich, luxurious even. Also, the small travel jar is great for travel. It is somewhat small when the soap cake is at full size, but it is easily cleaned and stored. My next soap purchase will definitely be Edwin Jagger.

Good quality soap, mild pleasant fragrance
I bought this before. It is a very ice shaving soap. Rich smooth lather, pleasant mild fragrance. I have many different shaving soaps, and this is my go to travel soap. Perfect size container for the see-through plastic zip travel bag.

A little goes a long way
Best shaving cream ever. I had a jar last 2 years. Granted I only shave every 3 days and just my neck because I have a beard, but still impressive. Smells amazing and very manly. I just bought a brush and tub of this shaving cream for my dad for his bday because I love it so much. You'll never go back to the canned stuff again.

Cheaper than from the company
Hubby ordered this, it is much cheaper on here, plus free shipping than ordering from the company. He says that this is his favorite, it provides a great shave, with little to no burn afterwards. The aloe in it also gives it a light, clean smell.

A fine soap, masculine but not woodsy at all
This soap is surprisingly comfortable. It lathers well and smells good. My only real complaint is that it tends to dry out on my face more quickly than I'd like, but as I've begun shaving a bit faster and with more water between applications, it's not a problem. If you're expecting a heavy woodland smell, you're in the wrong place. As commenter SF notes on another review, this soap has a hint of sweet-smelling sandalwood and isn't very strong. If you're not expecting this, you might even characterize it as "perfume-like", though it's definitely masculine. It's a fine, well balanced soap... if you like heavy wood, spice, and musk look elsewhere. Lastly, though it's only a couple of ounces, it lasts a very long time. It's a good size for travel as well.

Great travel shaving soap
I'm rather picky about what I lather up with. At home, I'm using a tub of Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood Shaving Cream Bowl, 5.3-Ounce, which will last me around a year (any Taylor of Old Bond Street product is highly recommended!) However, in this day and age, traveling with gels/creams/liquids is tough, when you want to carry your luggage. Shaving soap is the easiest answer to this dilemma. I've found this product to be quite up to task, lathers up nicely, and is very slow to dry out. The scent is not overpowering, but does leave a nice smell for the next hour. Most beneficial is the container - being a flexible plastic with a screw lid, it travels impeccably. I find that the little bit of moisture left in the container after use welds the product to the bottom, making it easier to use it later. One other comment: get a good badger brush (the best inexpensive one I've found is the Tweezerman Men's Shaving Brush), and dry it every time by squeezing it in a hotel towel. It won't make you forget about the good razors you can't carry with you, but you will have a long-lasting and TSA-compliant shaving system.

Don't know why it's so hard to find good shave soap, but it is. And this is one.
I'd been using some other brand of shaving soap (came from England, but I can't think of the name as I type this, and it ran out so I don't have the jar any more) for the past year. When it ran out, I thought it was time to experiment with some other soaps. This is one of them that I tried. Not only is it the best of the bunch I experimented with, it is really good. I don't like it quite as much as the other soap (the one I can't remember the name of), but this works very well. I have dry skin that is sensitive to soaps and the shaving process itself, and also have allergies/sensitiveness to scents and perfumes, and I have no problem with this soap. It has a nice smell to it, pleasant and refreshing, with no perfume or other gimmicky crud to make it smell "manly" or "rugged". It lotions my skin a bit, too, which is nice. It lathers up very well with my badger hair brush, covers my face nicely, and offers a smooth ride for the safety razor.

Gillette can suck it!
My wife got me a Merkur Vision 2000 razor, a nice Kent badger brush and Edwin Jagger products for Christmas and let me tell you I will never use anything else ever again. As a Marine I must shave every day and for the longest time I used the Mach 3, then the Fusion Power with Gillette or Edge cream. Using my new razor and this soap gives me the best shave I have ever had. The sent of this product is great, not perfume like but it has a manly fresh smell that I really enjoy. I will use this till discontinued!

Shaving Soap in a Tub
I use this shaving soap whenever I shave my face. I like the clean fresh scent as it lathers richly onto my manly face. My razor glides easily with the use of this shaving soap giving me a very close shave. During my travels, I like to use the same routine as I do at home. The travel tub makes its easy for me to bring my soap along with my other shaving supplies.

Great Product!
We are very very happy with this product. I use it to shave my legs, and he uses it to shave his face. It produces a very nice lather. The only down side I found was that it can tend to dry out quickly once applied, but that is normal for all of these types of products. I would highly recommend this product!

Bought this item as my first Edwin Jagger product. It forms a thick lather, but definitely requires a shave mug or bowl. I would have given it a five star rating, but the scent is not as strong as I expected. However, if you are looking for a nice mild shaving soap, this is a great option.
