I picked this up after my hairstylist recommended trying sulfate free products for my color treated hair. The texture is different from regular shampoos. The scent is pretty subtle and spa like (which my partner appreciates since we share it), though people who love strongly fragranced products might find it too mild.
Review of ONSENSOU Kabosu Organic Sulfate-Free Shampoo with Hot Spring Algae, Hot Spring Yeast & Green Algae Extract, Nourishing Formula for Hair Cuticle Care, 10.14 fl oz Pros: * cool stylish bottle (if you’re into that sort of thing) * smells slightly lemony, but not strong at all * lathers great! * washes well * hair feels great afterwards * scalp is clean of dead skin Cons: * too-long list of ingredients… oof, this shampoo is nowhere near natural! * somewhat pricey ($25/10oz at review time) Earns 4 stars because it’s a solidly performing shampoo with a pleasantly mild lemon scent.
This shampoo from Japan is really nice, and contains lots of ingredients that are good for the hair. It's a thick translucent yellow shampoo, and has a light lemon-y scent, not too strong, and it lathers well with just a small amount. It leaves the hair fresh and clean, but also soft, not stripped of moisture. This was a nice surprise because in my experience, most of the "clear" shampoos don't moisturize the hair much, so a separate conditioner is often needed. This shampoo definitely has some conditioning qualities that make the hair soft and silky on its own. Not sure about the long term benefits yet, but so far I am loving this Japanese shampoo! It's a bit pricey but definitely worth the splurge!
The bright yellow box with ONSENSOU Kabosu Organic Sulfate-Free Shampoo arrived and I was eager to try it, as it had some intriguing new ingredients. When I first opened the cap, I detected a pleasant, slight citrus smell. By rubbing my hands together with a quarter-sized dollop of shampoo, I was able to smell the clear, bright yellow shampoo more closely. It was similar to combining grapefruit and lemon zest, but it was also recognizable enough that I couldn't pinpoint it. I shampooed, several minutes with a nice lather and then rinsed. I was astonished that there was no need for conditioner afterward, and I was right! Since I started using this, my hair has become as soft as a baby's and I haven't used any conditioner!
I've had the pleasure of trying the Kabosu Shampoo, and I must say, it's been a game-changer for my hair care routine! The first thing that struck me was the incredible scent - it's like a refreshing burst of citrusy goodness that's both uplifting and invigorating. The aroma is reminiscent of yuzu or kabosu, which are Japanese citrus fruits known for their unique flavor profiles. What I love most about this shampoo is its perfect balance of cleansing power and gentleness. It effectively removes dirt and impurities from my hair without stripping it of its natural oils, leaving me with a clean, refreshed feel that lasts all day long. My hair feels soft, silky, and manageable - not dry or brittle at all. I've been using this shampoo for some time now, and I'm impressed by how well it's kept my hair in check. It seems to promote healthy-looking hair with minimal maintenance, which is a major plus in my book! The only tiny quibble I have is that the packaging can be a bit finicky to open, but overall, the product's quality and effectiveness far outweigh any minor annoyances. All in all, I highly recommend the Kabosu Shampoo to anyone looking for a gentle yet effective cleanser that will leave their hair feeling its best.
This shampoo has been such a pleasant surprise. The light citrus scent is subtle but refreshing, like a mix of lemon and grapefruit, and it makes washing my hair feel just a little extra nice. The lather is rich, which isn’t always a given with sulfate-free shampoos, and it cleans really well without stripping my hair. My scalp feels clean and refreshed, and my hair is softer and smoother, to the point where I don’t even need conditioner every time. I will say, the ingredient list is a bit of a novel, so it’s not exactly the “natural” shampoo you might expect from the name. It’s also on the pricier side, but for the way it leaves my hair feeling—light, silky, and easy to manage—I think it’s worth it. If you’re into citrus scents and a shampoo that actually delivers, this is a great pick.
ONSENSOU Kabosu Organic Sulfate-Free Shampoo with Hot Spring Algae has a pleasant lemon scent. I could feel the tingle when I first applied this shampoo. The shampoo lathers very well. I lathered and rinsed twice with this product. I did not feel that it rinsed out thoroughly. My hair did not feel squeaky clean and bouncy. Once my hair was dry it was fine. It looks and smells fresh. My scalp feels clean too.
I'm generally a fan of made in Japan products and assume it is made with clean ingredients and for the most part this has been true. I really like this shampoo and it smells amazing and does a great job but I do want to mention that there is an ingredient called Cocamide Methyl MEA that is in a lot of shampoos & liquid soaps that has a EWG rating of 4 and is ok in trace amounts and if rinsed off so I wanted to put it out there.
This shampoo is nicer than expected. It has a light citrus scent to it washes my hair clean, but has a richer texture to it. It performs like a conditioner that softens hair. No offensive algae odors like I initially expected.
For me this shampoo is amazing. It has a nice scent that is gentle and fresh. It cleans well but doesn't dry out my hair - this is important to me as I have dry hair. My hair felt like silk when I rinsed the shampoo out. I only needed to use half the amount of my usual conditioner. All day my hair feels so good and so soft. I've had issues with my last two shampoos I've tried but I am so happy with this one. So much that I added it to my Amazon shopping list for reorder, then I searched for and purchased the matching conditioner which they call 'hair treatment'. This product is made in Japan. I am impressed.
This shampoo came in glass looking high quality plastic container. It smells citrus but slightly. It foams and cleans very well. Made in Japan! Highly recommended it 👌
As their Amazon site says, "onsen" means a hot spring in Japanese, and 'kabosu" is a citrus fruit similar to a lime. This Onsensou Moisture Shampoo Kabosu mixes Kabosu, hot springs algae, and amino acids to support hair. My wife says it smells like mandarin, yuzu with a light wood note. The shampoo does indeed have a pleasant smell. If you add water to the shampoo and rub it between your hands, it will foam. I tried it myself several times and it does seem to make my dry and curly hair more smooth and manageable. The shampoo does have a long list of ingredients on the box that I won't try to repeat here. My wife says it makes her long hair more silky. The bottle holds 300 ml, and the shampoo is made in Japan.
The shampoo didn’t come with a seal which is concerning but overall leaves my hair feeling clean. Lathers a ton has no scent and is effective with a good rinse. All minimal safe ingredients too
I really like this shampoo. I have healthy hair, wavy/tangly, oily scalp. This lathers really well, cleans really well & I do not even need to use conditioner to get my hair detangled – rarely happens. My hair is full & shiny after it’s dry & I can go 2 days without washing. The scent is wonderful if you like citrus scents. It is not lemon so much as a lemon peel with a slight herbal note. It is barely noticeable when hair is dry. Made in Japan
I've been primarily using Asian hair care products for at least the last decade plus, so was interested in this brand that I hadn't heard of. ONSENSOU's Kabosu Shampoo is a wonderful discovery! First off, the smell: wow! It's the slightly sweet, slightly tangy full-bodied citrus scent of yuzu. Then there's the luxurious amount of lather which happens with just a mere concentrated amt. It washes out easily, and my hair did not feel stripped or dry. It combed easily, and air-dried fine. Oh--and the bottle is a nice textured bottle that's very easy to grasp in the shower. Easy 4.5 item.
This shampoo smells so good...like lemon drops or grapefruit. Its scent is citrus-sy, and very natural, and lingers a bit as my hair dries. The shampoo lathers well, and rinses out clean, and my hair after washing feels very fresh and light. I love the textured frosted bottle, but I did find that the transparent ingredient labels started to peel off right away, so I just pulled them off entirely before using this. The bottle looks even better without the labels, anyway.
This shampoo has a unique, subtle scent that’s not overpowering. Its smooth texture lathers quickly, making it a pleasure to use. Unlike other natural shampoos, it feels lightweight during washing and leaves hair clean without feeling stripped or vulnerable. I’ve experienced no issues with this shampoo affecting my hair color—in fact, my black color seems to be better protected and has lasted longer than usual. The ingredients have had a positive impact on my scalp microbiome, keeping oils balanced and irritation-free. After use, my hair feels silky smooth without any added heaviness. It’s a fantastic option for anyone looking for effective, gentle hair care.
This shampoo feels nice on my hair. It is cleansing and moisturizing. It has a nice scent.
This one surprised me. I did not expect my frizzy fly away hair to dry silky smooth after one use. But it did. And I certainly did not expect it to be silky smooth without using a conditioner. But it was. The scent is citrusy and refreshing, not floral, another nice suprise. ' The only downside is that my hair seems to need to be washed more frequently when I use this shampoo.
The shampoo has a really nice scent to it that makes me look forward to using it each time. It lathers well and makes my hair feel clean without overdrying it. My hair seems to feel soft and more easily managed. For reference, I have dyed medium to long hair that is a normal texture. I enjoy using K beauty product so this is a win-win for me
This Onsensou Kabosu Shampoo surprised me on how it could make my hair feel so different from my usual brand. I don't claim to understand what all the magic ingredients are, but all I can say is I see a change after styling my hair as usual. It's not often I come across a product in the shampoo category that makes me shift my mind about my longstanding favorite brand, but this shampoo from Onsensou is truly unique. My hair stylist was quick to notice the change in my hair and of course wanted to know what I was currently using. Recommend.
This shampoo has a really nice citrusy scent. It leaves my hair feeling silky soft.
Love the refreshing citrus scent! It's a good shampoo that doesn't leave hair feeling dry or overwashed. Has a good lather. Would recommend, but can be on the more expensive side.
This organic shampoo made from Japan is very good, with non harmful ingredients, good for people, I like it.
I didn't know what I was going to think when I ordered this because 1) I am allergic to anything that has scent 2) I am not familiar with the brand and 3) I have very fine and dry hair and am pretty particular with what I put in it. However, I have been using this for the past couple of days and I am so obsessed with the way my hair feels that I am now claiming this as my favorite shampoo. It not only has a wonderful scent that is natural and does NOT irritate my skin at all, it foams up and cleanses my hair like no other. Aside from how clean my hair feels, it also HYDRATES and makes my hair feel nourished after I rinse. I barely need any conditioner but it's not like a residue or heavy feeling it's just a nourishing hydrated feeling. My hair looks shinier and healther after only TWO days. This is amazing shampoo. A little goes a long way. I will definitely be purchasing again. I am a huge fan. This is incredible and worth a try, especially if you have dryness to your hair. Love it so much
smells nice and easy on the hair ONSENSOU Kabosu Organic Sulfate-Free Shampoo with Hot Spring Algae
I have been using a clarifying shampoo for years, I like a deep clean. This shampoo is different, it cleans and clarifies without sulfates and moisturizes deeper than I'm used to, it felt like it left something on my hair but now that it's dry, it was absorbed and my hair looks great. It is shiny and thick and doesn't feel weighted down, very nice. I did use a light conditioner afterwards. Comes in a beautiful bottle, there's a clear label on it but you can't read it, information is on the box. I'm pleased with the outcome, a nice shampoo. Nice scent but I could do without it, I'm not a fan of artificial fragrances (parfum).
This shampoo comes nicely packaged and has a fresh, clean, almost lemony scent to it. The bottle is thick plastic that looks almost like frosted glass. The writing on the box is in Japanese, but the manufacturer put an English label over the top of it, which is super helpful! :) Smells great!
I requested this shampoo because it was sufate-free. For a shampoo with perfume so high up on the ingredient list, I was shocked that I liked it so much. Maybe I just like the fragrance of yuzu or that I was romanticizing beauty items that come from Japan. Due to the sodium chloride and citrus, I would likely recommend only if your hair is not dyed. Otherwise I like it more than I expected.
This ONSENSOU Kabosu Organic Sulfate-Free Shampoo with Hot Spring Algae is made in Japan from mostly clean ingredients and no sulfates. Lathers up nice enough, and smells wonderful! I have really oily hair, though, and this didn't clean as well as i would have liked, but it is very moisturizing on the hair. Overall, it is a nice shampoo and I like the way my hair feels right after shampooing. Helps with detangling a bit, as well. Nice stuff, would make a great gift. Four stars.
didnt create a noticeable difference in my hair or scalp. but smells nice.
