I found this product to texturize my hair in a way that it always felt slightly damp & tacky. Not sure what it does for others but this is terrible for my fine, long fragile hair. It literally causing breakage. Not for me & disappointed in this product considering I like so much of the r + co line.
My husband wanted to try this R+Co BLEU Ingenious Thickening Shampoo. He loves trying new products, especially ones that are on the more premium end of the shampoo spectrum. He has very thin hair that is a bit sparse in some areas. He is always on the lookout for a thickening shampoo that can add some fullness to his hair. Most don't do anything, at least not anything that is going to make you stop and take notice. This shampoo DOES add some volume but it isn't anything that he would pay for more as the results are minimal at best. The fragrance is quite nice - musky, masculine, and very cologne like. He really enjoyed the scent and it does linger on your hair for awhile even after it's fully dried. The shampoo lathers fairly well and you don't need a lot to work up a decent lather. My husband's hair was left feeling squeaky clean (he appreciated that since he gets super sweaty at times) but it was also a bit drying. I only tried it on my hair once for testing purposes and it did clean my oily scalp but left my ends incredibly dry!!!! (like hay!) My husband loves the way it cleans his hair so he's happy. While this shampoo does have a more premium look and feel to it and does clean well, I'm not sure if it offered enough other benefits to entice me to repurchase again.
Love the packaging, It’s like thierry mugler “alien” inspired packaging being purple and all- like basically it had a baby and this is what spawned out. LoL. Smell is a musky scent that can be unisex. I love the smell. It kinda gives me Ralph Lauren Blue fragrance vibes just more musky. Anyway, the bottle is plastic and has an inner seal you gotta break in order to get to the product.. I used a nice quarter sized amount in my hair that’s pretty long. Like near my bum length lol. During wash and it suds up fine and left my hair clean and smelt great. Love shampoos that linger a fragrance. Anyhoo, I do have the whole set so shampoo.conditioner, and thickening spray. After I washed my hair with the shampoo and conditioner. I sprayed this in my hair and proceeded to blow dry it with my dyson & then I straighten it with my chi straightener. My hair had body and volume. I haven’t seen it like this unless I use hair spray. I’m a fan of this product.
Updated 10/10/21: Well I feel like a heel... I wrote a scathing review below about this shampoo, but I used it again today with a different conditioner (the R+Co Bleu Primary Color conditioner) and the results were ENTIRELY different. Hair feels great. I wonder if the Thickening conditioner was the issue, if I really did not rinse well enough, or if I used too much product that day. Long story short - the Thickening shampoo smells Wonderfull and DID get my hair nice and clean. Did it "thicken" my hair? Mmmmmm.... I don't know about that. Gotta be honest, I LOVE R+Co Bleu products for their overall performance, the shine and control they bring to my hair, the fragrance, the packaging - the whole experience. I just can't say that it thickened anything. I'm just so glad I gave it another try, because I do love all of their other products I tried! ~Amy 10/4/21: Let me start by saying that I recently discovered R+CO Bleu as a Vine member. Prior to trying R+CO Bleu I was a die-hard Oribe, Moroccan Oil and IGK fan. Once I tried the R+Co Bleu Primary Color Shampoo and the R+Co Bleu styling products, I was hooked! Oribe will have to take a backseat now. Today I tried the Ingenious Thickening Shampoo and conditioner and I'm totally confused. I don't know what they were thinking. Maybe it will be easiest to organize my thoughts by number... 1) Fragrance: The fragrance is the same as the other R+Co Bleu products: cardamom, pineapple, lavender, tangerine, bamboo and blonde woods. I love this fragrance. It's layered and sophisticated. You can smell it throughout the day but isn't overpowering. It's a beautiful gender-neutral aroma. 2) Consistency/Cleansing Performance: Straight out of the bottle, it has a unique consistency. It's thick - not like conditioner-thick, but like glue? It lathered nicely, but was not at all moisturizing. If you have dry hair (like I do), this is likely not the shampoo for you. I used the thickening conditioner after I rinsed out the shampoo (which also had a similar strange consistency), but my hair did not feel conditioned at all. 3) Result: All day, my hair felt like I had washed it, but did not rinse it well enough. It felt dry and brittle. I can't wait to wash it tomorrow with my R+Co Primary Color shampoo and conditioner. The R+Co Primary Color shampoo and conditioner are sent from the heavens above. I'm just so confused as to who this "thickening" product would be for and how it would be considered "thickening" when it truly just made my hair feel in need of a good cleansing. My opinion would be to skip this "thickening" line and head straight for the Primary Color R+Co Bleu shampoo and conditioner (and ANY of the styling products)! ~Amy
The R+Co BLEU Ingenious Thickening Shampoo is expensive at $60 a bottle, it does work well and is made with quality ingredients, but I just cannot justify the cost compared to so much else.
R+Co BLEU Ingenious Thickening Shampoo, 8.5 Oz I think the first thing I noticed about this product is the fragrance it is a bit strong but smells really good.. The next thing I noticed is the price $59 for 8.5 ounces. This does seem quite expensive for shampoo. Then, if you need cream rinse, which I do, it is another $50+. So I also ordered the cream rinse. It smells great too. Both bottles combined cost over $100. Super expensive. It does seem to make my hair feel thicker, and it smells great! Don't really think I'd order more at this price point. If both were $60 instead of $100, I think it would be a more acceptable price. I like it, but it's out of my price range. 4 Stars!
This is more for the seller vs for the product. I've used this shampoo for a year and it's great. Unfortunately, this seller sends something completely random instead of what's ordered. We'll see if the replacement is actually correct. Update: replacement is still not correct. DO NOT BUY!
I have fine straight hair and a lot of it. The first time I used this shampoo I thought I had finally found the answer to my flat lifeless hair! It was amazing and the fullness lasted 3 days! Unheard of for my hair. But…it never happened again! I’m so disappointed!
The shampoo has a masculine fragrance. Leaves my hair feeling dry and straw like. I pay way too much money for it and I regret the purchase. Every time I see the bottle it makes me so upset. Never again!
This shampoo is ridiculously expensive but a little goes a long way. The smell is very light and not overwhelming at all. I’m very sensitive to flowery smells. My fine thin hair is shiny, which is great, & so is the volume.
Product cleaned my hair but left it in a static, fly-away condition, even after I used the companion conditioner. So not worth the price!
Really makes a difference

My hair is very thin and very few. It's too thin, and after a few minutes of blowing a little exercise, it usually knots at the back of my neck. It tears easily and I can find it on my clothes. If it is dried naturally, my hair will always look good, but the scalp close to me will be flat and look terrible! I use this shampoo for about a week, my hair feels clean and looks very clean. After it dries naturally, my hair is very fluffy and the changes cannot be seen clearly, but you can feel that the hair will not collapse so much if you touch the hair with your hand. Because the price is very expensive, I’d recommend using a small amount in your roots ONLY and massage!
I'm going to start this review with the cons and the only one I came up with was the price. I understand it's a professional product, but you can get professional products that do the same thing for far less. Other than the price, I actually really like this shampoo. While I don't think it "thickens" my hair, it does give it more volume so there is the appearance of it being thicker. My hair seems softs and lighter after I use this shampoo as well. The scent might me strong for some, but I found I rather liked it and once it was washed out, it was light and subtle. Will I buy this again? Probably not and that's only because I can't justify the price.
This shampoo has some good ingredients, but also some trash ones like silicones and acrylates. It's shampoo, so I don't understand how those ingredients would benefit the hair. They cause buildup and are especially bad for my type 4 hair. I used the shampoo for hair extensions and it was only okay. It barely lathers and didn't feel like it really cleansed well. The scent smells good, like the rest of their products. It did not last long after the hair dried. Would not recommend this due to the ingredients and lackluster performance.
Unfortunately, this has an overwhelming scent. I wanted to find the magic product to boost my fine hair, but I couldn't handle the smell. I tried using less product, but the scent just radiated as I shampooed, and it stayed in my hair after it was dry. I had to rewash my hair to get the fragrance toned down.
I don’t know what to say exactly about this shampoo. The best thing it has going for it is a very strong scent. If you don’t like highly scented product, stay away. I do, if they are nice. This is nice, smells more like department store perfume than shampoo, but is it worth fifty nine bucks?! That is a luxury price point for shampoo, so it better be special. I can not say that this is. It did nothing special for my hair. I did enjoy the smell while I was lathering up, but the thing is, I need conditioner, and the thickening conditioner’s fragrance is too too strong and is making me sneeze six hours later, so you might need to use another brand if you have a sensitivity. Then you are talking about layering products and scents. Well, scent aside. I do expect the packaging to be nicer for a product at this price point. The box is flimsy and arrived crush. That’s on Amazon to some extent. But, it’s a thin box and the shampoo bottle itself looks no better than the higher end drugstore brands. When I am spending this much, I expect better packaging. I want it to look nice in the bathtub. That’s me. I will pay more for that as I like treating myself to pretty things. I am not impressed with their ecological claims. So much plastic, I don’t know but is bragging about gluten free a real thing for shampoo? I am more worried about plastic in the ocean. Companies like Lush put product in truly disposable containers. About the same price, too. And way nicer packaging design wise. Oh, my hair? Just as thin and limp as always. And not as shiny! So, it is a real fail for me. I started out with three stars, but I am going to give it two instead because I really think it is a pleasure to shampoo with it. If you have nice healthy hair and love fragrance, this might be for you. If you are looking for a miracle like I am, look elsewhere!
R+Co BLEU Ingenious Thickening Shampoo coated my hair, leaving it slightly thicker but not enough to offset the drying effect it had. The scent is strong, I didn't deduct for that but if you are someone bothered by strong scents this would not be something you'd like. I was the most disappointed with this product out of the ones I tried.
I had such high hopes for Bleu. Surely this fancy shampoo & conditioner would be the answer to lovely, manageable hair! Unfortunately, I only found my new Bleu-hair in a snarly wet tangle on top of my head--no comb could get through this without lots of breakage. Money and hair down the drain! Once you do get the tangles out and manage to style it, fine wet hair turns into coarse, dry straw--no thanks. Terrible purchase.
It's really hard for me to decide if I love this enough to want to repurchase it. Like all other volumizing shampoo products they work by either swelling up your hair or drying it out at the scalp so it stands up. To me this felt deeply cleansing so the roots of my hair were almost squeaky clean. If you have dry ends I'd be a little more cautious using this because it can be a bit stripping to the ends. Just make sure you have a good conditioner or mask to follow with. The scent is pretty powerful, like an 8 out of 10 as far as potency goes. It's a nice musky smell like others in the line but definitely not for everyone. If you have the chance to try it in a store or salon I would do that before picking this up. The packaging is an absolute hit though, free seed pack! (Hidden in the flap), eco friendly, 3d printed cap. I really appreciate that aspect.
My hair is fine and straight, but it gets frizzy. It’s also dry and damages easily. I had lots of breakage, but after ages my hair is almost back to normal. Still, while I’m really careful, I need to blow dry and use styling products to get any shape and body into my hair as my hair otherwise dries looking thin, flat against my head and shapeless. I don’t get a lot of volume even on a good day, plus it’s hard to maximize volume as I use a lot of products to repair and condition my hair. I’m using R+Co BLEU Ingenious Thickening Shampoo followed by R+Co BLEU Ingenious Thickening Conditioner, and I’m reviewing them together as I can’t separate out the effects of each. My hair feels a bit rough or dry while washing and conditioning with these products as opposed to products for dry hair and doesn’t feel quite as soft after blow drying either. But it feels healthy and isn’t dry or frizzy. It’s manageable and holds a good shape (with styling products). I love that my hair does look and feel unusually thick and full, yet it still feels good to the touch. The shampoo and conditioner are clear-ish as opposed to creamy and don’t have a rich or heavy feel. The shampoo lathers, rinses and cleans well. The conditioner feels lightweight, and I only apply it mid-strand to my ends. Both products have a sophisticated fragrance that’s rather strong while I’m shampooing and conditioning. While the scent does linger in my hair even after it’s dry, it’s not too heavy and smells really pretty. I don’t normally enjoy much fragrance as it’s an irritant and often gives me a headache. But my hair smells really nice. I also like that I haven’t had any color fading. The two products have other possible irritants (such as UV chemicals Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate and Ethylhexyl Salicylate), though I’ve had no irritation. I haven’t used the products long enough to know if my hair will get too dry. I don’t feel my hair is as soft as with some other products, yet it still feels good and I doubt I’d get such great volume if too soft. I can’t tell yet if it’s drying or just uses different chemicals that don’t coat my hair as much. I don’t think it will be an issue as I trade off with a few product lines anyway given my varied issues. I’m happy with the results, and these have become my go-to products on days I want to add extra oomph to my fine hair. Love both products. 5 stars.

Review for: R+Co BLEU Ingenious Thickening Shampoo, 8.5 Oz I have hemmed and hawed on what rating to give this product and I finally decided to keep the price of it out of my review and just go with my experience of the product. That price is not going to impact what I think of the product. First of all, I applaud that this company is ecologically minded. They plant a tree for every product sold. They also include a recycled card with each product that has wildflower seeds embedded in it. As for the shampoo, it is thick and rich and creates a ton of lather. I have been using it without any conditioner so I could get a true feeling of what the shampoo was like and I love the results. My hair feels thicker but also a bit coarser. It also looks thicker and I have been getting compliments on it. I was surprised at how easily I could brush through my hair without using any conditioner. I expected it to be a battle but it was not bad at all. The shampoo has a pop top and is easy to dispense. You don’t need much at create enough lather so it will last a while.

This shampoo definitely has given my hair more volume and made it thicker. I am very happy with how thick my hair has become. It has made my hair style well and it holds a curl better than it did before. I love the beautiful bottle of came in also! It looks so elegant in my shower. The main drawback is that it doesn’t smell very good. It doesn’t necessarily smell bad, but it certainly doesn’t smell good. I try to use a different brand conditioner that has a pleasant smell to leave my hair smelling great. I also am not a fan of how course it’s leaves my hair. It doesn’t leave my hair feeling very soft. All in all, it works great for providing thickness, but I wish it smelled better and left my hair a little softer.
It’s okay. Nothing special to justify the price. It’s a small bottle, not really fragrant (or at least not a fragrance that is “oh my god I love the way that smells), and didn’t really do anything special for my hair (3B). This is a solid $20 bottle. $50 is not even close to worth it. Not a bad product just not worth the current price.
I read such great reviews on this, And I really like R+Co products, but found it to be very drying. And, given its price, I won’t buy it again.
thick does not rinse
I will say this shampoo smells amazing. The quality seems great and I’m sure it would work on another hair type. My hair isn’t too thick but it also isn’t too thin. The use of this shampoo in combination with the conditioner gave my hair an undesirable texture that I didn’t like. I know not all shampoos will work for every hair type, this one just says it for me but I have allowed others to use it and it’s worked well for them. It really comes down to a preference of your hair feel because it does make your hair feel thicker but to me I just don’t like the texture.
Love this shampoo!!! It's lightweight and adds volume. Smells great too!!! Packaging is super cool.

From thin to bombshell! I know it’s expensive but all the good things are!
I have tried so many different hair products from this brand and although they are pretty pricey most of the time but the quality is amazing. This thickening shampoo comes in their signature packaging and the size is 8.5 oz. which is pretty good size. I have long hair but still a little amount of it would get so soapy and nice on hair. It's effective enough that you can see the result after each use as it adds volume and thickness to your hair and also gives your hair very natural and healthy shine look.
I've been fortunate to try several R+Co BLEU products. I've been favorably impressed with most of the products I've tried. This one, though, I got for my husband. He's had great success with thickening shampoos in the past and I was hopeful this one would work for him too. He likes it a lot. He has thinning hair and feels like he needs all the help he can get. He says this performs as well as his previous go-to thickening shampoo. His hair feels full and soft. The fragrance of this product matches others from the BLEU line. It's very musky and while supposedly unisex, it seems very masculine to me. Perfect for my husband. This product is really pricey. If it's in your budget, it's a solid bet.
I really like this shampoo. The packaging is outstanding and eve comes with a built-in seed card. It is a thoughtful way of giving back though I will say that a biodegradable bottle could do much more for the environment. This does have a scent that reminds me a bit of patchouli though I don't see anything in the ingredients to indicate that. Lathers well.
I have thinning hair, and I have tried a lot of shampoos. R+Co BLEU Thickening Shampoo has made my fine, short hair look a lot thicker and fuller. I am seriously amazed by this shampoo. I just ordered the conditioner from this company and am looking forward to seeing what it does too.
First: I loved that this shampoo is parabens, gluten, and cruelty free. I have used this shampoo for about 3 times a week for 3 weeks nows and I honestly don't think my hair looks to different, I have pretty fine hair so any change is pretty noticeable. The smell is nice but nothing too overwhelming in my opinion. Overall I like the shampoo and what the brand stands for.
I deliberately did not use conditioner when trying this product so I could get an unbiased review. I like the fact that my hair seems a little bit thicker, although not as much as I wanted. What I don't like is the fact that my hair seems harsher without the conditioner.
