This stuff works great but it takes a bit of effort. Out of the tin it is damn near as hard as candle wax! Aroma is much nicer than the citrus smell of Dan's regular hold but nowhere near as easy to use as the regular's softer texture. Were it not for the overly hard texture I would have given it 5 stars. Update: If I could go back in time I would give it 5 stars. Have used it several times now and it is well worth the effort it takes to overcome my previous "hardness" complaint. Superior hold with a nice shine. Leaves hair feeling somewhat soft & natural without that "plastic" look that many hard hold, high shine pomades leave you with.

Dapper Danhood Personified
Hello. My name is Dan. I can be quite Dapper at times. I use this pomade. I bought it because I use pomade and appreciate feeling Dapper. This stuff achieves the desired level of Dapperness to coincide with my high level of Danliness. It is quite heavy so I use it with another product at the moment until I buy a tin of medium hold Dapper Dan to mix it with. The price point is a bit higher than others, so I use this mainly to keep down cowlicks and keep my pomp in place. It smells absolutely wonderful and I am hoping that the scent mixes well with the medium hold. Style with a Dapper Dan handmade comb while wearing Tortoise shell Ray-Ban Wayfarers and listen to the Grease soundtrack if you want maximum hold.

Had to try it
When I saw Dapper Dan on Amazon I had to order it. It has good hold but not great. High shine and good fragrance. True to the movie, it took two weeks to get to me. I do prefer Uppercut Monster Hold or Goon Grease to this, though. Dapper Dan does have a better fragrance and higher shine than Monster Hold but doesn't last through the day as well. Goon Grease is about equal in fragrance and shine but better hold than Dapper. One plus for Dapper Dan is that it will wash out the easiest even though it is oil-based.

100x better than FOP.
This pomade is great, a tad expensive, but I think its pretty much worth it if you want a real good pomade. Comparing it to something like Murray's pomade, Murray's takes about 4 washes to get out of your hair, sometimes more. And it can take a long time to get off of your hands too. Dapper Dan is of utmost quality when it comes to being able to hold your hair real well, but also wash off first try, I was shocked when I applied it and washed my hands, it just washed right off. Its labled above as Licorice scented, I love that scent, but I know some people do not, and I can assure you, It smells nothing like licorice, just vanilla, and several people ive asked have said the same. Its just a great pomade overall, I went to bed with it in, and my hair looked even better when I woke up! 10/10 would reccomend.

Works, but the presentation was off
Over all this pomade is good, but I had to take a star away for presentation. It seems petty, but I am big on how the product looks when I open it. This product looked died out and cracked when I opened it. That certainly didn't impress. However, when I used it, it performed adequately.

Layrite or dapper dan? That’s the question
This product feels like a hybrid wax/clay pomade mix. Hold is fantastic. Very little blow drying needed. Hair feels healthy washing it out. Removes easily. Don’t fall asleep with this on your bed (has that waxy feel). So it depends on the person this hold is super strong and won’t move throughout the day but if you’re the type of person who wants to run his hands through his hair or have someone do so... then this product is probably not for you and would suggest layrite. I personally have very coarse thick hair and require a very strong hold but would also like to run my hands through my hair as well. I use this product for work days or rainy days. The beauty of this product is for me at least i use significantly less product to manipulate my hair. Whereas with the layrite its a softer feel and requires more product, more hair dryer work and manipulation to get the desired results. Layrite has a significantly better fragrance. Layrite feel is great but requires a lot of product for myself. So for the money i think this product is great and honestly use both layrite and dapper dan for different instances. Perhaps i need to try their other products as i have only tried this one out. I do wish they would improve the smell or lack there of.

Easy to apply with a great hold.
We've been using Dapper Dan for a long time. Our Grandaddy used it and it's a family tradition. The scent is awesome and will remind you of an authentic barbershop. It's just right and sits somewhere between butch wax and Palmade. We give it our sincerest stamp of approval.

I'm so glad I took a shot in the dark and gave this product a try. There probably aren't too many pomades or hair gels left that I haven't tried. Some are too thin and runny, some are too greasy, others leave your hair feeling like Louise at your mom's salon emptied an entire can of hairspray on it, others have such a pungent fragrance that they could be used as smelling salts at boxing matches. So I have to admit that upon opening this can of Dapper Dan, I wasn't the least bit hopeful. Been there, done that, and have the receipts to prove it. But zoinks, to my utter surprise, this stuff smells... really, really good! Don't ask me to describe what it smells like because I can't. It's not "like" any other hair product smell that I've ever encountered. It's mild but just strong enough to make you look in the mirror and say, "That's right, ladies, here I come!" (Sorry, I mean my wife... my WIFE!) Seriously though, this stuff is great. I'm hard to please when it comes to scented products, but Dapper Dan won me over in about 0.8 seconds... and that's saying a lot! Give it a try. I think you'll like it as much as I do.

After styling my hair for years for that classic 50’s look I’d always be annoyed with how greasy my hair would look or the off putting smell of other pomades. Excellent for thick coarse hair
This pomade has a strong hold but flexible enough to shape your hair. It’s the only product I’ve been satisfied with for my thick coarse hair. The only negative thing is the smell. I’ve become immune to the smell but it apparently leaves a smell. I wish they would make a non scented option.

Strong hold.
The pleasing odor is half the point. It is a structural material similar to mortar. Use it sparingly. Difficult to apply it without causing lumps. Added water helps. Once you get the hang of it the results are excellent.

Medium hold at best, ok smell
I have thicker medium length hair. For me, Hold is medium at best. Hard to get a look other than the slick back I go for and it doesn't do that well because hair will not stay in place. Also makes my hair look dirty. I have blonde hair so this can be a challenge with different hair products. Smell is 7/10 Hold 4/10

Slick and easy
So if you’re a fan of petrolatum oil based pomade and love the feeling of being able to restyle your hair whenever you please, this is the stuff. Regardless of it’s lack of petrolatum, this product acts like an original pomade. One of its great benefits is that it washes out with warm water. The smell is very pleasing, if you’re a fan of vanilla cream or anything close to it. It does give me an vintage feel when I wear it. I can smell it on me and it makes me think of myself as John Dillinger. Haha. It’s easy to comb through, and feels great being able to restyle it as I please. I get complimented on my hair when I wear it. I do recommend having a nice tapered cut as this pomade compliments your hair better with a semi fresh cut. All in all, great pomade. Would buy again when I run out for sure. It also seems to last quite some time seeing as how you really don’t need to apply a lot.

Awesome product just one complaint...
Has a good shine and the fragrance is subtle but smells good which is a plus. It’s easy to apply no hair pulling at all, my only complaint is the hold it’s not a strong hold more of a medium at best so you have to apply a generous amount for a slicked back look.

Maybe it was the batch
I have for years been , and I say this with no pun intended, a dapper Dan man! Have always ordered the same can and have always been pleased with the product...however this go round when I received my can and opened I was saddened, a bit remorse to find out that it did not have the aromatic and pungent sweetness that oft seduced my nostrils. It smelled...well....like straight petroleum. I'm hoping that this is a one off batch that missed the bus to aromaville that morning and not, dare I say, the result of cutting corners to save a dime or to from the company. Has anybody else experienced this? Asking for a friend.
