MUCH MUCH MUCH BETTER THAN CHEAPER PROBABLY FAKE BADGER BRUSHES
Before I had $10 "badger" brushes that either might have been fake, cheap badger, or not badger. I will never know. However for a lousy $42 I must say that this "expensive" shaving brush is well well well worth it. Beautiful to look at and hold. It is not as stiff a brush as horse or boar brushes. I have never but silvertip badger, but I think they would be too soft. This brush is the perfect combo of stiff and soft. It is stiff enough to gently exfoliate but soft and smooth enough to be a pleasure to use. It holds lather and water phenomenally. After a full thick lather shave, I can rinse off and shave two more times with new lather and comfort to spare. I have only had it one week but experienced NO hair shedding like cheaper brushes. Weight and look and handling is beautiful. Utility and function to create a great lather is outstanding. Feel on face is perfect. I am telling EVERYONE TO BUY THIS BEAUTIFUL AND FUNCTIONAL SHAVING BRUSH. thanks for a beautiful and useful product Herr Muhle!!!!

Nice heft, feels like quality.
I’ve had a Mühle badger brush for 25 years. It started to lose more bristles lately and thought it was a good time to upgrade. The new one has longer bristles and they are more firm which seems to work the soap in the bowl better and make a richer lather on the skin. It has more heft and that feels like quality. It does have that smell that other reviews had stated but it’s not a deal breaker. It’s not odoriferous, it doesn’t permeate but if you stick your nose in it does smell like wet dog or in this case badger. At least you’ll know it’s organic. I won’t be returning it. If the smell doesn’t dissipate after a few shaves, I’ll soak it in vinegar. If it still isn’t gone… C’est la vie. UPDATE: I’ve been using this new brush for a couple of months now and the ‘wet dog’ smell HAS dissipated and the stiffness in the bristles has softened. It’s the perfect brush now. It’s still about the heft and feel of quality. I’ll go to my grave with this one.

Upgrade your shave
Finally replaced the cheap synthetic bristle shaving brush that came with a drug store safety razor kit. Gents, if your brush is getting shabby, no longer smells faintly of critter, or, worst of all (mea culpa) never smelt faintly of critter, get you this brush. Night and day difference. Here’s the experience: Face is wet and hot. Swirl wet brush gently a few times over your soap. Now put the brush up to your face and swirl it around. The tightest, smoothest, slickest lather just appears right on your stubbly mush. A nice sharp blade planes it all smooth with almost no effort or irritation. Rinse, dry, slap on the Old Spice…might be the best part of your day. As someone who shaves every day, this is right up there with changing the blade every week or having access to hot water. I can’t believe I waited so long to buy this. What a product.

Luxury!
This isn't an everyday experience for me, but once in a while I like to treat myself to some lather before I shave with my wet/dry Norelco. (Sorry blade guys, but I learned my skin can't handle that method.) I did have a cheap, discount store beaver hair brush before this that was okay, but I decided to treat myself to something better. The Mühle Vivo was WAY better and does all that it claims. It has a soft touch and does an excellent job of retaining heat, working up a fine lather quickly and distributing it evenly across my face. The fine craftsmanship, materials, and design are obvious each time I pick it up. Sure, it was a bit of an extravagance. But my face was so very happy I splurged a bit on it!

Well made, but not soft
I've had this brush for a while now, and am very impressed with it. I bought it to replace one I purchased at Art of Shaving. This is a far better construction than the AOS brush. It has very good bristle retention, although when I unpacked it there were bristles everywhere. I was afraid it would lose them like the AOS brush did, but once I had the chance to clean it the stray hairs disappeared. I haven't seen any loss since I first cleaned it, and that is a HUGE deal. The handle is very elegant and weighty. It feels more like a brush costing twice or three times as much. I will say that this doesn't feel as soft as Badger hair, which leads me to think that it's actually boar hair. The bristles are stout and course feeling, not as soft as the AOS brush. However, I would purchase this one again without hesitation. Quality construction is just as important as quality materials, but after losing half a brush to consistent bristle loss I will suffer the inaccurate description (I don't really buy the claim that it's genuine badger).

Great Shaving brush
I like the weight feel and balance of this brush. The brush head is full and soft. My old brush handle feel apart being some sort of pressed particle board. This metal and resin feels stronger and hopefully more durable. There was a wet dog odor from the bristles as first bit with repeated shaves and soap it is going away. The real test will be if it lasts. I would expect to get several years out of this brush. If I don’t I would be disappointed but it seems like it will last.

This Smells Horrible! (UPDATE: It got better)
This smells like a rotten decaying dead animal (I'm not making that up - it really smells like a dead animal). It's as if someone picked up some road-kill and stripped the hair off and made a shaving brush. I followed the instructions thoroughly, including washing the brush before using - no help. I soaked it in soap overnight - three times - no help. I soaked it in vinegar; I dusted it with baking soda - no help. Using it to lather up some fragrant smelling shaving soap did not hide the smell. This is a bad product. UPDATE: Okay - five weeks after I bought this and used it, the dead animal smell went away and it's okay now.

Smells like a Dead and Rotting Animal
I wish I had listened to the other reviewers about the odor from this brush. I know pure badger hair brushes initially have a bit of a smell but this one literally smells like a rotting dead animal. For the price of this brush I would have thought it would be cleaned and deodorized by the manufacturer. I am hoping after a few more uses it breaks in and the smell goes away. It is horrendous.

Nice Beginner Luxury
This is my first brush, and I am really impressed. Smells like a wild animal which goes away after 3-5 times use and lathers really nice. Its Pure badger grade which is fine for me, I mainly got it because handle looks nice, and using it feels good as well. A very hefty handle and overall a nice light scratch on my face when lathering.

Badger yourself and get this. Worth it.
I saw these brushes and thought this was some sort of overkill and unnecessary. However, after looking I finally ended up buying this (Plum Wood version). I had been using a cream which came ready made for this thing, but using the brush and ending up with the best lather ever. This brush feels great. Suddenly, shaving became a pleasure. Cleaning this is super easy, I simply ran it under the sink and the brush becomes clean. Clearly a stand is necessary because this needs to be stored upside down to dry. Likes?: I absolutely ended up loving the brush with Plum wood. The brush is quite soft from the start, and I did not myself find any smell at all. The brush feels like a quality build. Dislikes?: None. Overall?: This may be the best thing I have ever bought for myself. I actually liked shaving instead of doing a daily task. Recommended.

Hold your breath!

10 month review
At first, I was very pleased with this brush. A little stiffer than I was used to, but it built up a good lather and held onto the bristles well. Recently, however, something has radically changed and the brush is losing at least two dozen bristles daily. I will have to replace this brush much sooner than I had anticipated, and at this year’s prices I will definitely be purchasing something else.

Loses hairs while lathering.
Loses hairs. Used it one time and at least 8-10 bristles came out, and it seems like my second try isn't going to be much better. This was not a problem with my other "less expensive" pure badger hair shaving brushes. Don't want to use it again. The body seems well built; however I wish I can get my money back.
